Meet The Stage Coach
Acting, Dancing, and Movement Coach
I'm Michelle Black, and movement has been a part of me since I was a toddler. Growing up immersed in dance, acting, and performance, my true passion is using different movement techniques and approaches to bring a character, expressivity, or vision to life—whether on stage, in front of the camera, or in my personal life. My formal education is in this as well: an Associates of Fine Arts degree in musical theatre, a Bachelor's of Arts in Dance, and a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Education (will be completed in Dec 2025).

I wanted to share what I have learned about movement and the stage with all of you, so I created "The Stage Coach" - a coaching/consulting business about body movement, particularly for stage performance; including acting, dancing, kinesics, expression, and self-awareness. I can work individually or in classes, online or in person. Drop me a line- Let's create an experience full of meaning and magic- for you, your theatre class, or your entire organization.

"Michelle Black worked with my 3rd grade students several times. She had those kids eating out of her hand. I loved how she taught them to listen and respond to her. She worked with me for several different years with different groups of children, some of them very challenging! Michelle has a unique way of making each child feel important and loved. I learned a lot from her time with me. She definitely helped me with some strategies that made teaching more productive and fun."

"Michelle’s experience in dance and theatre is impressive, and her choreography brings a unique energy and authenticity to the stage. Her attention to detail and ability to help performers truly embody their characters make her an invaluable part of any production.
Michelle is a talented artist, incredible teacher, movement specialist, and mentor to her students; making sure they not only master their craft but also feel supported both mentally and emotionally. Michelle goes above and beyond to create a safe and encouraging space for them to explore."
- Aimee Wetenkamp,
Music and Theatre Director
Kansas School District
"Michelle’s projects are always well thought out and imaginative. She has an innate curiosity, and always knew which questions to ask. In addition, she is an excellent collaborator. You will find Michelle to be an engaged and effective instructor. She has a sharp mind and is adept at both the practical aspects of theatre as well as the academic regimen. That coupled with her experience with dance and movement makes her a singular talent.
